Outer-Space BG

Had to goto work today & sit around for 7 hours waiting for a truck... not going to get too into that but needless to say I had time to start a doodle & then some. I ended up with this at the end of the day & I'm pretty happy with it. I didn't get to finish it yet. It still needs a lot of definition in the foreground, but I'm pleased with the overall composition. As always please let me know what you think!

Hey Pat, that's terrific! Nice sense of depth/space, neat shapes, and I get the feel that it's floating up out of some mist of some kind. Very groovy.

You do much with formal perspective? If not you sure have a good feel for it naturally.

Thanks a lot Rob! That's really encouraging :)

I like your mist idea a lot too, it will keep the mood, if not enhance it; and it will make for a relatively easy way for me to define the foreground! Win-win :)

As to your perspective question, no I don't do much in the way of setting up grids & whatnot. In fact, I barely know how to set up much more than a single point grid. But it's something I try to pay attention to, & of course I erase a lot :)
When I can't get a good line I just close my eyes & try to see what I want to draw & I find that really helps. Other than that I use some tricks to keep perspective, for instance, once you get 2 major lines established, say the outer edges of the roof of a house, it's easy to keep perspective on the whole roof, even adding windows & such, just by dividing the lines on either edge. That way you don't need to get into a big time grid with a million lines you don't need.

Thanks again for the engouraging words!
