Just a sketch I'm working on for a background. It will be a transition between 2 worlds, one real, & one imaginary. The jungle is the result of a boy's imagination, and he will be sitting on a rock/log somewhere in the midwest & open his eyes /look up to see this jungle. I'm going to do the foreground on another sheet to start with so I don't screw up the whole thing, but at the moment I really like where it's going. I think I'm going to trace this & attempt it in watercolor as well. We'll see how that goes...
I'll have more on this soon but I don't want to reveal too much just yet.
Heres the initial rough sketch:
And here's the shaded/detailed version:
I know there are improvements I can make, so any suggestions are welcome.
And here is the rest of it.

Pat,
I'm not certain for what this background is being created, but I wanted to remind you that if you are going too produce it in Toon Boom then you will want to break things into layers and take advantage of the 3D space to add even more depth to the image. Three or four elements separated by front-back space will really look good for creating a jungle environment. Additional overlapping of elements will also add more dimension to this. Keep up the great work.
I will be using toon boom for almost everything, but I want to have something that contrasts the vector look. I was thinking about tracing this in tbs & putting the various pieces on many layers like you say, I'm just not sure it will keep the style I want it to have. I really like the image so far, so I think I'm going to try it in a variety of media (mediums?) I'm not too handy with watercolors yet, but I'll give them a try, & I already have something that looks promising done with ink, marker, & oil pastels.
I'm wondering if I can somehow bring in my hand drawn stuff but cut it up & put it on different elements without tracing it in toon boom. I haven't tried it yet, I guess I would have to break it up in photoshop & use transparent backgrounds on all the layers? I don't even know if I have the photoshop skills for that.
I've got to look into what tbs 4.0 will offer in terms of messing with image elements, that could help out a bunch. In the meantime I'll keep playing with it til I get the results I'm after.
Looking good. Will be nice when its clean. I did this in Toonboom and it came out OK. Still needs a bit of work though.
